There’s no shortage of opinions on which production car is truly the “Horsepower and 1/4 Mile King” - if we disqualify the $1,450,000 1001HP Veyron. To settle the debate, we looked to the leading and most reputable automotive magazines (Road & Track and Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords) for 100% stock unbiased real life strip tests, HP ratings, weights and pricing of current production vehicles with 600+HP ratings. No special tuning etc. And no one off “tuner cars” or “dream cars” that never made it to market or was emissions illegal.

THE SHELBY CARS - We also included all the Shelby cars - the 500HP Eaton 1.9L GT 500, the 550HP Eaton 1.9L KR, 605HP TVS Eaton 2.3L Super Snake and the 725HP Kenne Bell 2.8L Super Snake, as they are the Ford cars our customers compare to the other 600+HP offerings.

*Car was tested by Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords Magazine (see reprint March ‘09 on our website) with Drag Street Radials, which we - and many Shelby owners - use for everyday driving on our 725HP Super Snakes. All the other cars listed above come with big wide sticky “325” or “345” rears. The SS’s huge 725HP and fat flat 620 ft. lbs. of torque is simply too much for the stock 305’s. It’ll burn ‘em off the rims. Just add a $550 set to the price of the car.

725HP PERFORMANCE OVERVIEW & POTENTIAL - This Kenne Bell SS test car runs identical 10.8’s/134 on 93-94 octane and makes 692RWHP on a Dynojet chassis dyno and 806EHP on a Superflo engine dyno. Expect 11.2/130, 658RWHP and 771EHP on 91 octane. And for weekend drag strip/competition only with race gas and the 2.5” pulley, there’s up to 801RWHP/914EHP available and the 9’s at 140+mph. At this power level, the Eaton 2.3L TVS Kit is maxed out and 192HP short of the Kenne Bell (see “Dyno Tests”). With cams, long tubes and headers, MM&FF Magazine made 1018EHP with the 2.8 Supercharger Kit. How’s that for performance and HP potential? All without those expensive heads, cams, headers, etc. Ford built one helluva engine for this car. The Shelby cars with the Kenne Bell 2.8H Supercharger Kit is hard to top - at any price tag. And it’s actually underrated at 725HP. Shelby’s goal was to “under promise and over deliver.” To quote MM&FF test driver Even Smith “It takes almost 800HP for a car of this weight to turn 134mph in the 1/4.” That was verified with an 806HP engine dyno run at Westech. Torque was 721 ft. lbs! At the 725HP rating, the Super Snake is “The Fastest, Quickest and Most Powerful Musclecar” available. It’s an incredibly docile limited production car with unsurpassed HP, acceleration and potential. It’s intended for those big on image and bragging rights.

THE KENNE BELL SUPER SNAKE PACE CAR - And the car is a daily driver. This month we drive ours to Las Vegas where it will be outfitted by Shelby to be the Pace Car for the Inaugural Shelby 427 NASCAR Race. After the race, we’ll leave the light bar on the roof, drive it home, park it - and order another one. Hopefully, they’ll catch up to demand sometime soon. The SS is the ONLY car we ever bought that increased in price the first year we owned it. And like all the really great Shelby cars, it will continue to appreciate and turn heads.
